Freda Woody is a registered nurse with Carolina Recovery Solutions. She has said the following about her life and work:
I am native to this area. My family has been here for over four generations. I live on a small farm with my husband, Steve. We have over 20 goats (I have been known to bring bottle babies to work in a laundry basket and on a heating pad) and 50 chickens. Our Great Pyrenees dogs, Bristol and Nickel, keep predators away from our farm. We also have a Boxer named Rocky, a Manx Tortoiseshell cat named Gabby, and a Senegal parrot named Dexter. We have an antique booth is Asheville, so we are auction, estate sale, and yard sale champions. We enjoy doing anything together! I did not get married until age 46, but boy, did I latch onto a winner!! We have a camper on Lake Cherokee in Tennessee and even enjoy going there in the winter. We are very supportive of our local 4 -H and FFA chapter. We are members of Turkey Creek Baptist Church in Leicester.
I attended AB Tech for my LPN and RN schooling. I graduated from Lee’s McRae College as an adult learner and obtained my BSN in my early 50’s. Nursing is all I have ever wanted to do. My mama watched General Hospital when I was growing up and I was on awe of Jessie Brewer, R.N. I loved watching her pin on her nursing cap in the nurse’s lounge on the seventh floor. So, in essence, my profession was decided by a soap opera!
I can remember loading hay onto a trailer when I was little. When we got to the end of a row, we got a little rest as my Papaw turned the tractor and hay trailer around to head back the other way. I spent my few minutes of rest giving the seed pods of a bull nettle a shot with a briar from another weed. I never had to practice giving an injection while in nursing school, because I already had it down pat!
